It is the saga that will never go away, everyone wants to give their opinion on it. There is an update every single day where nothing new is actually being said. That is right, it is Florian Wirtz’s future, and Bild are once again chiming in.
The tabloid lists the four scenarios for the future of the 21-year-old based on the clubs interested in him.
The first is that he stays at Bayer Leverkusen. die Werkself still believes that he will stay at the BayArena for another season and has not given up hope that he will sign a contract extension until 2028, with a release clause worth €125m from next summer. However, if Wirtz decides not to extend, he will leave in the summer, and Leverkusen will demand at least €150m.
Where Wirtz wants to move actually depends on his future goals. It is said he has ranked his potential suitors on whether he can win the Champions League and Ballon d’Or. The ranking is: 1. Real Madrid, 2. Manchester City. 3. Bayern Munich. The 21-year-old is waiting until the end of the season to assess the sporting situation and which move to which club makes sense for his future.
Madrid will only make their decision on whether they wish to sign Wirtz or not in May, where current Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso could be the head coach as well.
Pep Guardiola is said to have sat down with Wirtz and explained how he would fit into the system at City and replace Kevin de Bruyne. City are ready to immediately pay the €150m asking price and offer the Köln native a high salary as well. The salary is said to be around €25 million a year.
Bayern is where things get complicated. Wirtz’s father prefers his son to move to Bavaria and has met several times with Uli Hoeneß. City’s interest drives up the price, and the fact that Leverkusen do not want to strengthen a direct competitor and the fact that the relationship between Bayern officials and Leverkusen officials is also not the best doesn’t help the situation.
Kölner Stadt Anzeiger reports that there is currently no clear tendency regarding Wirtz’s future. Basically, meaning no one actually knows what is going on.
