Preview: Eintracht Frankfurt vs Bayer Leverkusen

Bayer Leverkusen are desperately trying to stay within the title race and now must travel to Deutsche Bank Park to take on Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.

Frankfurt are currently in third place and are eight points behind Leverkusen who sit just one place above them.

Dino Toppmoller’s side suffered a 4-0 loss against Bayern Munich last week and will have to significantly improve if they are to beat a Leverkusen side that are unbeaten in their last 21 Bundesliga matches.

Xabi Alonso’s side are also unbeaten in their last 28 away games in the top-flight.

Frankfurt have also failed to keep a clean sheet in their past six matches, conceding eleven goals in that time.

Despite this defeat to Bayern, Frankfurt had scored in their previous 21 league matches in a row and are the Bundesliga’s third highest scorers with 49 goals.

Leverkusen’s last Bundesliga match saw them defeat Holstein Kiel 2-0 with Amine Adil and Patrik Schick scoring the goals.

They are now eight points behind the league leaders Bayern Munich, and this could be extended eleven points if Bayern beat Stuttgart tonight.

In the last meeting between these two sides, Leverkusen came out on top with a 2-1 win, meaning that they have won their last four matches in a row against Frankfurt.

Team News

Defenders Tuta and Robin Koch will be unavailable for Frankfurt due to suspension and injury meaning that a makeshift and unfamiliar defence will have to be implemented to take on the champions.

Striker Igor Matanovic may not be ready to play at the weekend but is likely to return to action soon.

As for Leverkusen, Piero Hincapie will miss out through suspension whilst Jeanuel Belocian has suffered a cruciate ligament injury and will miss the rest of the season.

Mario Hermoso is likely to replace Hincapie in the lineup.
