Now thrice-capped German senior team international Angelo Stiller has received a new contract from VfB Stuttgart. Stiller’s recent rise effectively mandated a new deal with his Bundesliga club. The 23-year-old continues to be the subject of outgoing transfer rumours, most notably with Barcelona.
Stiller’s new Stuttgart deal – valid until 2027 – most certainly contains a significant pay raise. It stands to reason that a specific exit clause has also been agreed to. Kicker reports that the clause may be in the €40m range.
Whether or not Stiller maintains any interest in leaving remains to be seen. The midfielder’s close connection with VfB trainer Sebastian Hoeneß – who also coached him at FC Bayern Munich reserves and at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim – serves as his preferred mentor.
Hoeneß brought in Stiller after the surprise departure of squad captain Wataru Endo in August 2023. Since then, Stiller has gelled with new VfB captain Atakan Karazor and increased his estimated market worth from €5m to €32m.
“From day one, it has been a perfect fit between VfB and me,” Stiller said in a club statement. “We have embarked on a successful journey that we will continue together. I have experienced some wonderful moments, including finishing as runners-up [in the Bundesliga last year], playing in the Champions League and making my debut for the national team.“
“We have now extended the contract prematurely to mark another mutual milestone,” VfB personnel chief Fabian Wohlgemuth added. “We are now in a position to retain quality at the club in the long term. The sporting future prospects of VfB Stuttgart are now viewed in an absolutely positive light by world-class players.”
