Vincent Kompany calls for improvement from his Bayern Munich squad

Bayern Munich may be sitting four points clear of Bayer Leverkusen heading into the opening round of fixtures in 2025, but Vincent Kompany is wary of the threat that reigning champions Leverkusen pose, and has called for improvement.

Speaking in Friday’s press conference ahead of Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga Topspiel against Borussia Mönchengladbach, Kompany said: “Now the second half of the season begins, which is when titles are awarded.

“I want to see a team that wants to continue to improve. We want to concede even fewer shots on goal, we want to score even more goals. It’s a question of mentality.”

No team has scored more than Bayern Munich 45 goals after 15 Bundesliga games this season while the Rekordmeister average 19 shots on target per 90, with 39.6% of their shots finding the target, per FBRef. Harry Kane and Co. are also outperforming their xG by 10.5 goals – the most of any team this season.

Defensively, Manuel Neuer is only allowing 0.73 goals against per 90, the lowest of any goalkeeper in the Bundesliga this season.
