Dayot Upamecano wants release clause in new Bayern Munich contract

After extending the contracts of Manuel Neuer, Alphonso Davies and Jamal Musiala, Bayern Munich are working on the extensions of Dayot Upamecano and Joshua Kimmich.

But while Upamecano and Bayern are close to reaching an agreement, TZ report that the French defender would like to include a release clause in his contract – which was granted to both Musiala and Harry Kane. However, club bosses do not wish to give Upamecano a clause.

That said, Bayern Munich remain optimistic that Upamecano will sign an extension beyond 2026. When asked about a possible extension for 26-year-old, sporting director Christoph Freund said:

“Upa knows that we definitely want to extend his contract. We have had very good discussions with him. We would like to extend his contract with him soon.”

Upamecano’s development under Vincent Kompany

The Frenchman has been known to make some high-profile mistakes in important games in the past but with each passing game under Kompany, is becoming far more assured. Despite considering a move to the Premier League, Upamecano’s immediate future appears to be at the Allianz Arena.

Upamecano has played 30 games across all competitions for Kompany this season.
