Borussia Dortmund’s Mike Tullberg welcomes Niko Kovac: “A new era begins.”

Mike Tullberg will take charge of his second Bundesliga game on Saturday when Borussia Dortmund play at Heidenheim. On Sunday, the interim coach will pass the baton to Niko Kovac, who will be Die Schwarzgelben’s new head coach after signing a contract until June 2026.

Speaking in Friday’s press conference, Tullberg said: “The team now knows. Then a new era begins with Niko Kovac on Sunday. The players know that, they are looking forward to it. Now we want to play a successful game tomorrow.

“I have not had any contact with Niko yet, but I am ready at any moment, he just has to get in touch. It is all about making it easier for him.”

Borussia Dortmund remain winless in the Bundesliga in 2025 but under Tullberg, they picked up their first point of the calendar year last weekend following a 2-2 draw against Werder Bremen. But they will certainly have been unhappy with the outcome after being 2-0 up.

Against Heidenheim, Dortmund are playing a team that has won just four of their 19 Bundesliga games this season.
