Fabrizio Romano reports that Borussia Dortmund are progressing in their pursuit of Lyon forward Rayan Cherki as the transfer deadline approaches.
The 21-year-old has already given the initial green light over a move to Dortmund in this window. However, details of the contract still needed to be agreed upon.
There is a verbal agreement in place for Cherki to move to the Signal Iduna Park this month for €22.5m. In the summer, Cherki was available for around €18m and due to Lyon’s provisional relegation, they are now still forced to sell some of their valuable assets.
It was reported earlier this week that Dortmund were interested in Cherki but any move would need the green light from new head coach Niko Kovac. As Dortmund is now progressing with the deal, it is likely Kovac will approve the move for the Olympic silver medalist.
Dortmund are in need of someone who can play as a winger as they have yet to sign a replacement for the departed Donyell Malen. On top of this, Cherki can also play as a number 10 which Dortmund also need numbers in as Julian Brandt has regressed as a player this season, the signing of the 21-year-old may help Brandt drastically improve his performances with his starting place now at stake.
