Sport Bild reports that it still remains likely that Florian Wirtz will extend his contract at Bayer Leverkusen, despite heavy noise surrounding Bayern Munich’s interest.
Wirtz is expected to make his decision by early April and as things stand, he will likely extend at Leverkusen as his parents, who are also his advisors, see a move after the World Cup in 2026 as the ideal situation.
The 21-year-old’s new contract would be valid until 2028 and include a release clause worth around €125m, which would be valid from 2026.
If Wirtz decides to leave Leverkusen, the price tag will be at least €150m. This means Bayern would must sell first before they can even make a bid for the Köln native. Manchester City are also heavily interested in Wirtz and would not be deterred by the large price tag while Real Madrid are also linked.
The fact that Wirtz is currently out injured means there is now more time for him to think and decide on his future.
