Julian Nagelsmann on Germany’s goalkeeping sitatuon: “I’m still not 100% sure how the distribution of game time will be.”

Speaking after the announcement of Germany’s squad for the October international break, head coach Julian Nagelsmann has commented on the goalkeeping situation.

With the injury to Marc-André ter Stegen, VfB Stuttgart’s Alexander Nübel and Hoffenheim keeper Oliver Baumann are set to fight it out for the interim number one spot. One option is that each keeper will start one of the upcoming international games.

However, it could be suggested that whoever starts against the Netherlands is the more trusted keeper, as they will likely be a lot busier than against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

On the situation, Nagelsmann said (via @iMiaSanMia):

“Oli [Baumann] and Alex [Nübel] have already been with us and did well. Oli, in particular, had a great start to the season in the league and the Europa League. He deserves to get game time and he will get that. I’m still not 100% sure how the distribution of game time will be, whether one will play two games or one game for each. Janis is also there, he’s the starting goalkeeper for Salzburg and playing in the Champions League. He’s a good guy, we need someone who keeps the group together in that #3 role. There are of course other candidates who can convince with good performances in the coming weeks”

Former RB Leipzig goalkeeper, Janis Blaswich will be the number three. Blaswich is currently on loan at Leipzig’s sister club Red Bull Salzburg and is competing in the Champions League, the 33-year-old was previously in this role nearly a year ago when he was called up for the November international break.

Germany first travel to Sarajevo next Friday to face Bosnia in their third Nations League game before three days later hosting the Netherlands.
