“A catastrophe” – Uli Hoeneß criticises new England head coach Thomas Tuchel

On Wednesday morning, the English FA confirmed that Thomas Tuchel would succeed Gareth Southgate in becoming the new head coach of the English national team.

Having stepped down after guiding England to their second successive European Championship final appearance, there were a number of candidates in line to take one of the most revered jobs in football.

Nevertheless, the former Bayern Munich head coach was able to secure the job, leading to a plethora of criticism within England and Germany.

As reported by Sport Bild, speaking at a leadership summit, Bayern’s honorary president, Uli Hoeneß, is understood to have described Tuchel’s time in Bavaria as being “a catastrophe.”

This is due to the negative way in which Tuchel approached games during his time at Bayern, as well as his day-to-day working methods.

These are also two reasons why the 51-year-old has been criticised by those in England who believe the former Bayern head coach does not meet the values set to become the England manager.

On top of this, Hoeneß believed that Tuchel failed to develop the young players at the club.

Despite this, the 51-year-old was able to win the Bundesliga with Der Rekordmeister and, on top of a number of other achievements, win the Champions League with Chelsea.

Therefore, his time at the Allianz Arena should not be the only way in which Tuchel is judged, but it is clear to see that he is not held in the highest regard by those in power at Bayern.
